Currently, US manufacturing is facing a talent shortage. This struggle isn’t new; we’ve learned the hard way that finding a formally trained machinist to fill the open roles at our shop is a fool’s errand. So we came up with a solution that benefits our company and the employees we hire: invest in employee training to develop the machinists we want on our team.
How We Invest in Our Employees
We recognize that the best machinists don’t always fit the traditional mold. We’re not looking for someone who can walk in off the street and immediately master every responsibility listed in the job description. Instead, we want to find that rare candidate who can think mechanically, mathematically, and geometrically—even if they’ve never used those thought processes for precision machining.
Once we identify candidates with that maker mentality, our goal is to help them develop their precision machining skills via our hands-on training program. Employees in this program can expect to spend time learning directly on various machines and using their company-provided laptops to explore Fusion 360, a 3D modeling software for manufacturing.
