The Best Online Engineering Resources
As an engineering-based manufacturing company, we’re humble enough to admit that supplementing our own expertise with external resources can be immensely helpful. Remembering every last bit of technical information can be challenging when you’re tasked with solving complex manufacturing problems at the same time.
Because we offer so many engineering services—Design for Manufacturability, process engineering, reverse engineering, and FDM 3D printing—we must be able to make the best recommendations to our customers using the most accurate information at any given moment.
If we’re in a pinch and need to double check or refresh our memories on any technical matters, these are the trusted resources we turn to. You may find them helpful, too!
Arbiser Machine’s Go-To Online Engineering Resources
Engineers Edge. Engineers Edge offers a wide variety of information in any format you can imagine. You’ll find standards and specifications, design videos and forums, calculators, material design and reference data, and more. Much of this information is free to access. Engineers Edge also offers training and seminars and can provide professional development hours for license renewals.
MatWeb. This website is brimming with materials information. You can find data sheets for over 155,000 metals, plastics, ceramics, and composites. Each data sheet lists references, but most information comes from manufacturers, handbooks, and professional societies.
At our machine shop in Georgia, we use MatWeb as a quick reference guide for materials properties, including physical, chemical, optical, mechanical, electrical, and thermal. It’s free to view the data sheets, but with a premium subscription you can conduct side-by-side comparisons and export the data.
The Engineering Toolbox. If you need a digital engineering encyclopedia, look no further than The Engineering Toolbox. It’s possible to answer almost any engineering question you can think of with the information they have available.
The left menu allows you to search by discipline. Once you select a discipline you’ll see an alphabetical list of highly specific topics and their definitions, equations, and explanations.
At Arbiser Machine, we’re always happy to answer any engineering questions our customers have. But if you’re interested in conducting your own research, we encourage you to bookmark these sites for trustworthy information that’s easy to access.
