Level Up Your Parts with Laser Engraving and Laser Marking

Interested in labeling and serializing your parts for easier tracking and organization?

How about branding a part with your company logo?

You need a machine shop that specializes in laser engraving and laser marking

Not every shop offers these services, but Arbiser Machine can provide laser engraving and marking on a variety of materials, including stone, plastic, wood, steel, marble, and many more.

What are the Different Types of Laser Technology?

If you’re familiar at all with laser technology, you may have encountered information about laser engraving, etching, and marking.

While all three methods utilize heat to create a design, logo, or text on a piece of material, there are key differences between these technologies:

  • Laser marking is the lowest heat option. It uses low-heat beams to discolor the surface of the material.

  • Laser engraving is a higher heat option that vaporizes the material to create grooves in a desired shape.

  • Laser etching is a subtype of metal laser engraving service. It uses high heat to melt the surface of a material, causing it to rise.

Understanding these differences is crucial to selecting the appropriate technology for your part. For example, surgical and medical tools typically require etching or marking as opposed to engraving because the grooves that result from engraving can collect bacteria.

In other industries, customer preference and the environment parts will be in can affect the type of laser technology that’s best for a given part. For example, customers whose parts are exposed to gunk, oil, dirt, and other debris might prefer metal laser engraving services since this option ensures optimal visibility and durability.

Common Applications for Laser Engraving and Laser Marking

Laser technology has several practical applications for businesses that can make not only their products but also their work responsibilities a whole lot easier:

  • Tool and product labeling

  • Serial number inscription

  • Corporate nameplate creation

  • Trophy and award chiseling

  • Alphanumeric component encoding

  • Barcode installments and/or replication

Product labeling and serial number inscription, for example, helps manufacturers keep parts organized and serialized. Imagine ordering 50 of the same kind of part. Without laser engraving or marking, keeping track of those parts can be difficult and time-consuming. And if there are multiple components in an assembly, serialization makes it much easier to identify which components need to be replaced.

From an aesthetic standpoint, laser engraving or marking parts provide a customized, professional finish. At Arbiser Machine, our lasers can replicate any font or logo on flat or 3D parts. We can also engrave or mark cylindrical parts, which is a feature you won’t find at every shop.

Arbiser Machine’s Advanced Laser Technology

We use one of the most versatile machines on the market for laser marking and laser engraving services. Our YV04 Laser Series can achieve an exceptionally high energy density and small spot size. It’s also known for being energy-efficient.

This laser is ideal for reflective surfaces, but it performs well with almost any material. The short pulse duration ensures that direct part marking won’t cause surface degradation, recasting, or stress risers.
